What is an Alpha Release?

Before the product is officially released to the public, testing phases have to be done. One of these phases is the alpha release. At this point, the features are still incomplete and continuous testing of core elements is needed. This phase is followed by the beta version. The alpha version is an internal testing phase before the product can be tested by users/customers (i.e. beta – test).

Example of what’s the main difference between alpha and beta release

Let’s take the website of a theatre as an example. When you can view upcoming shows and select your seats but cannot pay on the website, it would be considered an alpha release. You can still ask participants to test this phase, but your website is not complete.
