A cottage business is a small-scale business usually operating out of a home. Cottage businesses usually focus on the production of labour-intensive goods, which – because of their higher price – will never be able to compete with big-scale manufacturers. They include hand-made items such as jewellery or ceramics and are often sold in small shops or dedicated websites like Etsy.
