What is a mockup?

Mockups are full-sized models of the product, usually with all elements of the design, but with no, or little functionality. They can be used to advertise a product or to test its physical attributes or design even before the developments of the software, or internal workings have fully finished.

In the startup world, especially when digital products are taken into consideration, mockups are designed, visual plans of how the final landing page or app screen could look like. They serve the aim of testing the user flow and helping the development team – specifically the front-end developers – with knowing exactly what visual elements needs to be implemented. It’s a static wireframe after all.
