What is Quiet Quitting?

Quiet quitting is a workplace phenomenon in which an employee quietly disengages from their job and minimizes their effort and engagement without publicly declaring their decision to leave. This term refers to a subtly expressed resignation in which a person physically attends work but psychologically and emotionally withdraws from their responsibilities and commitments.

 

How to tell if someone is quiet quitting.

There are many frequent markers that employers and supervisors should be aware of:

  • Reduced Productivity: A departing employee may begin to produce lower-quality work, miss deadlines, or fail to accomplish duties as effectively as before.
  • Lack of Initiative: Employees who are disengaged from their jobs may stop taking initiative, proposing suggestions, or volunteering for extra duties.
  • Reduced Interaction: Quiet quitters may withdraw socially from their coworkers, avoiding conversations and interactions that aren’t strictly necessary for work.
